In the middle of the night, the narrator is in a cave in the mountains of northwest China. He is overcome by the cold and by his sister's presence. He pretends to be in a dream, and his sister pretends that she is sleeping. He asks her why she is there, and she tells him that she has grown up, and that she will always be his sister. He tells her that they have not seen each other in a long time, and he asks her to show him her progress in the martial arts. He wants to know when she became so clingy, and asks her if she will leave him. She says that she would like to see him smile less, and says that it would be better if he did not smile at her.
