The narrator asks the audience if they have been injured by the explosion. He asks them to imagine what it would be like if they were struck by a rock or by a flying boulder. He then asks them if they had been hit by something. He tells them that he has just gotten caught in a storm and almost drowned in the water. The narrator tells the audience that he is glad that they still care about him. He says that he loves her and that he will never turn her down. She tells him that she will stay with him for the remainder of her life. She says that the thing she made for the explosion was refined by her, and that ordinary black powder cannot match it. She then says that if it were used for building a canal, it would result in half the effort, but if it was used for evil purposes, it could yield twice that amount. She also says that she does not want to die, and she tells them not to talk about the explosion to anyone. The next morning, they blow out a canal with the explosive, and people will finish the rest of the work.
