About This Chapter
Asuka, a young woman in her mid-20s, is trying to kill a duck in order to make a meal for her family. The duck is so close that she has to flap the bird's feathers to get it to stop biting her. Asuka says that she's never seen a duck so close before, and that she hopes to kill it quickly so that the bird doesn't get too far away. She also says she'll use the feathers to protect the bird from getting sick from the wound. As he's doing this, Asuka notices that the duck's skin is green, and he wonders if it's a bird that's just trying to get away from him. He says that he'll do the same thing with the feathers later, so that he won't have to worry about catching a cold or getting sick. He thinks that killing animals is a good way to get food, but he wonders why they don't do it more easily. He wonders if they should just roast the duck, but asuka says they'll have to wait until they're ready to eat it. He's been experimenting with different kinds of duck meat, including duck steak, duck bone, and duck soup, and now he wants to try his hand at killing animals. He decides to use the duck feathers to make skewers, which are much easier to cook than the traditional duck meat.
