After hearing the good news that they're almost back on land, the boys are worried about running out of water. They're worried about what they'll do if they run out, but they don't want to drink the water that's already on the raft. They decide to try a new water-making device, which they call a "filter" . The boys think it's a good idea, but then they wonder if they'd be able to use it if someone else got to it first. It's hot outside, and they wonder when it'll be cool enough to drink it. They see a boat coming toward them, and the boys panic. They think the boat is a rescue ship, but really it is just a small boat. They panic, but the boys manage to drop their ballast and get water to the boat. The ship continues to move, and after fifty-eight days, they reach their destination.
