In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters who are introduced for the first time in the novel. We learn that Hiroshi and Asuka are on their way back from a fishing expedition, and that they will be returning to Asuka's house in the middle of the night. We are also introduced to Hiroshi's mother, who is also introduced. We also learn that Asuka and Hiroshi are planning to return to their home in the morning.
