About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's on his way back to the boat to fetch water. He's going to tell the others about his plan to escape, but he has to keep it a secret until he gets to the raft. He tells them that the walnuts on the beach are still edible, and they can eat them raw. The narrator says he'll make them some tea, glue some pine needles, and some glub, and then he can make a new ear pick. He says he can do it on his own, and it's really nice. He asks the narrator if she's ever rested on anyone before, and the narrator says it must have been the first time she'd rested on someone other than a friend. She tells him that she caught another bug, and he says it was pretty. She asks him what happened to his hair, and she tells him it was tied back for her. He apologizes, and says he doesn't want her to hide things, but she can't hide her tomboyishness. She says they're everywhere, and that they've washed up on the raft, too.
