The chapter opens with a discussion of Asuka's upcoming exams. She's been studying hard for the exams, but she's still not feeling well. She tells us that the rescue team hasn't arrived yet, and that they're still looking for the crash victims. Asuka says that she and the master of the island have been drifting around the island looking for food, but they've run out of food, so they'll have to go into the forest to find some more. They find a mushroom that looks like a manita volvata, but it's poisonous, and they can't eat it. They also find a moth larva that resembles a snake, and a taro-like plant that's similar to an elephant's ear, but not poisonous. They decide to try a "contact test" to see if they can eat the taro root.
