About This Chapter
In this chapter, we meet Dr. Manette, the head of the university's medical school. He's in the middle of a conversation with his assistant, Dr. Akina, and the director of the school's new school of medicine, Mr. Sood. The two of them are having fun at the swimming pool, which is open only during the summer months. Dr. Menezes, who's also in the conversation, asks if the pool is open during the rainy season, which means it's a good time to go for a swim. He also asks if there's anything wrong with the school, since he's had a bad experience with his exorcist, and he wants to know what's going on. The doctor tells him that he is a "half- extremely demon" , and that he'd like to know how much he is human and half-demon. He says that he feels like a "victim" of the medical school because he was "stunned" by the way they treated him when he was a student. He asks how the school is doing, since it seems to be doing a good job of keeping the world "in balance" . The director says that they're doing the medical exams to find out if there are any signs of demon activity in the body, but the doctor points out that the girl is "completely human," and that's why they are doing the exams. He adds that the director is probably the only person who doesn't hear him being a student, so he'll talk to him over the phone. He then asks the director if he feels guilty at all about the exams, since the doctor's doing them. He tells the director that he was in love with a student and that made him want to join the senate, instead of going to medical school, where he would have to study medicine.
