Everyone says that the stars are beautiful, but to say the truth, the narrator says, he can't see them clearly. He's afraid, he says, because he's not used to looking at them. He says, "I guess things havent changed much" . He asks where the people are hiding, and the old man says they're coming back to bring him home. The old man tells him that everyone in the town would tell him that Ari was lying, and he has lived in this town for ten years, so he can trust him. He tells the mayor and the mayor's son that they'll bring Ari back, and Ari is waiting for lunch. She's in pain, she says, so they should just let her go. She says she wants to cross over, but she's never asked Ari to come live with them. The two men tell her that Ari is using the power too much, and she should stop using it. Ari says she'll be fine, and they circle around her. The men say they've got more power in them than she has, and that's why they want her to stay with them, even though she hates them. She asks why they all jumped when she saw the stars. They tell her to come back to the hospital, where she can have a home.
