In this chapter, we learn that Rebecca is the founder of the Church of Saintfire, an organization that believes in the concept of "time." She was once a lieutenant in the freedom forces, and she and her husband, Nestor, were married on the day their daughter was born. When Nestor was promoted to a higher rank, he left Rebecca without a word. He was killed in the line of duty, and Rebecca was forced to return to the church.
