In this chapter, we learn more about the mothers of Enobarth, Rebecca, and Linn. We learn that their mothers were kidnapped by draken and kept as research specimens for three months. They were later recovered and brought to lendard, but their mothers are dead. The Archbishop of the Church of Saintfire is one of the mothers, and she is a threat to the existence of the human race. She was designated a "mother of the cosmos" and she was able to create life through her ether, which is unique to mothers. If she were to destroy humanity, she says, she would not be able to access the source of life, the ether of mother nature. She tells us that she will find her mother and destroy her. She says that if she is able to destroy mother nature, then she will destroy humanity. She also says that she has good news for her son, who has been searching for the core of the ship. He has been able to find it in a different location. He says that he is now stronger than ever, and that his mission is complete.
