In this short scene, we learn that Dr. Rivers ether has been out of control, and that the devices that absorb the life force of the people have been sent into reverse. The combined life energy of the humans and the ether has somehow fused, creating a new problem. The group is going to have to deal with this problem themselves, and they'll have to rely on the power of "the great demon king" to do so. The sound of a huge explosion fills the room, and the group is about to leave. Suddenly, we hear the voice of the "creature" again, and this time, it's the hermit himself. He's in the middle of a conversation with the cat, and he tells the cat that if he's killed, the cat's going to awaken. The cat belongs to him, and then he'll be his friend.
