About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the Swarm has taken down a number of drones, but that more and more of them are coming towards them. We're told that the main unit of the Swarm is out in space, and that it's time to take care of it on its own. We learn that hermit and weisz are on their way to the same place, but the Swarm doesn't need any help. It's just a matter of time before more drones arrive, and the Swarm will have to fend them off. The Swarm asks if anyone thinks a mercenary is a good idea, and they all agree that a mercenary should be able to defeat a human being. They also agree that the only reason a mercenary would want to fight a human is because they're afraid of being defeated. They're all like, "Gee, that's cool, but I don't want to be defeated by a robot who can't understand that robots have hearts." The Swarm is all, "Yeah, but you're not going to defeat me by using a robot's weapons." He's got a plan: he's going to glue himself to a human face, and then he'll use his blades to destroy the human. He wants to see the face, so he can figure out how to defeat the robot. He asks if the face is human, and he gets all huffy when he realizes that it is. He says that if he were to break something, it would have to be human, because the fear of death is the best way to do it. He tells us that the face he sees in the mirror is the same face he saw when he was a kid. He also says that he can use pebbles or wood chips to break the glue, but he'd have to use pebbles and wood chips because the glue won't stick to him. He'll have to find a way to get rid of the dirt in his mouth. He knows that he has to stop the robot from moving, so the robot can run away. He promises to show him the despair in his face if he shows
