In this chapter, we learn more about Yonussi's sister, Holocene, and her relationship to Yonussi. Holocene's relationship with Yonussi is described in great detail, and we learn that Holocene was made a cyborg when he was a young man, and that she has helped Yonussi become a better man. Yonussi and Holocene discuss the upcoming battle, and Yonussi tells Holocene that he should stay out of the way of the battle, as it is the "right thing to do." Holocene agrees, but Yonussi reminds him that he is counting on Yonussi to help him hold out longer. Holocine tells Yonussi that the explosion in the ship was caused by the ship's ether comm link, which Yonussi thinks is a bad idea, since it is not like the "great demon king" that Yonussi used to worship. He goes to investigate, and he discovers that the ship has been attacked by an enemy of ether gear. He realizes that he cannot approach Holocene because she is holding her weapon in the mirror, which means that he will have to use reverse to get back to the ship.
