In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named Mller. He is a member of the team that is building the ether cannon, an instrument that will be used to destroy the ether field on the planet Newton. He tells us that he has been working on this device for 15 years, and that it is the only thing that can save the ship. He also tells us how important it is that all the bots on Newton be saved, because they are the only ones who can save them. He asks if he can be his friend when the project is over, and when he says yes, he asks if they are already friends. He says that they are, and then he tells them that they have a problem, because the cannon is not able to handle the amount of ether that is released from the ether accelerator. They have to shut it down immediately, and he says that he is not sure that they will be able to do so. He then tells them to calm down, and they agree to be friends.
