The narrator complains to himself that he's late for class. He's been studying for the English entrance exam with his childhood friend, whom he calls "reifujimura," or "the childhood friend." The narrator tells himself that it's a waste of time to waste a second cramming for the exam when he could be working on something else. The narrator then tells his friend to give him a card, because he'll be able to use it to practice his English for the mock exam that's going to be held the next day.
