In the middle of the night, Bing Fu is awakened by the voice of the ice sage, who tells him to follow him back to the icy river valley. Bing Fu tells him that he has sworn never to let the body of the lass harm the world, and that he is courting death by using his dou qi, or energy of the body. He tells the elder of the valley that the more he uses his energy, the faster his body is destroyed by the sage's forces. The elder tells Bing Fu that he should not worry, because he can leave all of the rest to him. He says that the elder has been restricting himself just to keep his body from harm, but the elder is hell bent on capturing the brat. He asks the elder to kill the brat, and the elder replies that he does not need to tell him twice. He then tells the brat that he was fast asleep when he woke up, and he says that he did not want to die, but he is a former dou ancestor, and therefore wrong. The ice sage says that if the brat does not die, he will tear her to sounds troublesome. He gives her a quiet place to heal, and they go to investigate.
