About This Chapter
This chapter opens with the sound of a green wooden seal falling from the sky. It's a symbol of death, and it's also the symbol of the "libation" of the dead. The wooden seal has fallen from heaven, and the dead are now allowed to live. This is the beginning of the end of the human race, and we're about to find out what's going on in this chapter. We learn that the wooden seal was originally made to hold water, but now it holds all sorts of other things, including the bodies of people who have died in the process. We're also told that this wooden seal is the same one that was used to seal off the island of Yaphia. Yaphia's grandfather, who's called "Wu Qingfeng," wants to use the men in the cave to help him refine his medicine, and he wants to know if they're good friends with his master. The men are shocked to learn that his master isn't a friend of theirs, but Yaphia tells them to stop messing around, because he's not going to be able to survive on his own. He's got to go outside first, he tells them, and if they don't step outside, they'll all be dead.
