In this chapter, the Time Traveller explains how he came to understand the concept of time travel. He explains that he has lost someone important to him, and that he needs to correct all of his mistakes in order to be able to go back in time and save that person. The Umbrella is a device that allows him to float in the time machine and adjust the time to suit his needs.
