In this chapter, we learn that Ulysses is a member of the "purge" group, and that his wife is also a member. When they arrive at the old barzesa house, they find that it is the old home of the Barzesa family, which is the main target of the purge. When Ulysses and ivan come to investigate, they discover that the old house has alogo on it, which means that it was once the home of a barzea family. Ulysses tells ivan to get up and leave, but ivan refuses, saying that he just pulled his tail. Ulysses says that he's going to give his tail back to ivan, and they exit. Ulysses points out that there are two failed plans left by Dr. Bledsoe: one is to use Ulysses's men as soldiers, and the second is for Ulysses and his men to be used as biological weapons. Ulysses thinks that the first plan will fail, because it will require a purified version of the original virus, while the second plan will succeed, because the original will not be pure enough. He says that the true ancestor wouldn't have given up his life even if he were dead. Ulysses asks Ulysses to give him his lightning defense net and destroy his enemies, so that he can throw away the necklace that ulysses gave him.
