About This Chapter
In order to survive on the sea, Ulysses must reunite with his friends. He wants to see them, and his desire for them has become a desire. He has gone to a mountain to see a river of crystal ice, and he and ivan have seen the ruins of a city hidden among the sea seaweed. He thinks that the histories of the past were wrong, and that they are not the same, as they were when ivan remembered them. He tells ivan that he has changed: he has lost his powerlessness, he has become an obsessional demon. He says that ivan has lost her sense of justice, her purpose and kindness, and all that made her who she was. All that remains is her demands of us, and desire, of our relationship. She has given up everything in order to save them, if only he had been stronger at that time, maybe things would have turned out differently. She says that she is more important than the world, the journey or anything else, and the two of them are more important to her than anything else. He asks if she has already made her decision, and she says that it seems that their actions have totally reversed. At the beginning, he says, she was the one who did not care about anything, and given by another party she was a fool to want to handle things on her own. He reminds her of the time he spent with her fixing these things, and says that they will never be true again.
