In this short scene, the protagonist attempts to find a way out of his present predicament. He realizes that he has run out of time, and that he is infected with apu, which he does not want to die. He tries to ask the records officer what he did to him, but he is told that it was a golden red substance, and he is not allowed to use the vaccine. The tail end of the apu is missing, and the tail end is missing as well. The protagonist realizes that his body has been ravaged by heat and fatigue from the ordeal. He is glad that he did not die, because he would have preferred it to be him who died. He feels that he will find the only light that will enable him to get out of this predicament.
