About This Chapter
In this chapter, Dr. Bledsoe explains that the purified body of the virus is no different than the human body. The doctor created the body, counted on it, and took its blame for its survival. He says that he has told the truth to the living dead, but they have destroyed his efforts and the hopes of mankind. He tells them that they are the same as human beings, and that they cannot be created to suppress them. He promises that he will fix his mistake, and start over. He explains that he is the Dr.'s records officer, a device that is used on the dead to check if they can use electro-psychological therapy to restore sanity. The machine is designed to kill the infected person, but for ordinary humans, it can be used to kill them. The sound of the 12 chimes can be heard in the distance, and the dead person is awakened by this sound. The dead person's brain is stimulated with an electrical current, forcing his nerves to work furiously to reconstruct memories. The brain's activity rate is lowered, and he is dead. He asks the dead man to open his eyes, and if he does not, he will ask him in person.
