In this chapter, we learn that the Imperial Guards have prepared a special takemika for the First Lieutenancy to use in the coming battle. The First Lieutenant tells us that this is not a good idea, since he is a lowly officer, but that it is his duty to protect the honor of the Imperials. He tells the First Lieutenant that he knows that the battle is the last chance for humanity to save itself, and that it would be a waste of time to waste it on a woman who refuses to spoil him. He also says that he is sure that the two of them will never see each other again, since this is their last chance to save the world. The Second Lieutenant tells him that they have already received a notice from the Imperial Guard that they will be assisting the battle, but if they do not accompany him, the blame will fall on the empire. He says that they need people like him, since the empire will need them in the future. He adds that the old class representative would never have suggested that they use the take-mikazuchi, since it is supposed to be only for the Imperial use. But if they change the control of the unit, he says, they would not have allowed anyone else to do so. He then tells the Second Lieutenant that the system he is referring to is built right into the Imperial Tank, so it would not be possible for them to leave it alone. He promises that he and his men will succeed in their mission.
