In this chapter, Tommo explains how he came to be a part of the oo-unit. He explains that the beta doesn't recognize humans as living beings because they're made of nothing but glug material. The only thing that makes humans alive is that they have brains. Brains are the ones that translate information into words. If you lose consciousness, you'll look nothing like the person before you. Tommo wants to be able to face Yuuko as an equal one day, but he's not mature enough yet to do so. He's worried that if he loses his mind, he won't survive.
