In this chapter, we learn that the entire debacle was a plot by the Americans to fulfill their hidden agenda. They even got to Lieutenant Thesleff. They're going to hold off their pursuers, and they'll protect the highness of the American flag. We learn that this was all part of a plan by the American army to protect their own country. They still live in this country, and that's not good enough for them. They need to take care of their country and their father, too.
