The next morning, the group gathers more information about the situation in the U.S., and they're planning to use it to their advantage. They're already planning to attack the next hive, which is already in the process of being attacked. The group is going to destroy the first one, and then they'll be able to use the information to plan their next attack. The chapter ends with a soliloquy in which the protagonist compares himself to his father, saying that he needs to be just like his father so that he can finally make the right decision at the right time. He says that sometimes it's necessary to listen to what people around him are saying, and that's something he's not always able to do. He wonders why she would kill herself in the way she did. The protagonist says that he doesn't blame her for killing herself, but he does blame himself for the whole thing.
