In this chapter, Mina uses the metaphor of living an alternative to be afraid to express her dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. She tells us that one of her teachers in school used to tell her that education was mankind's "biggest weapon" to fight the evils of poverty and ignorance. She says that she would be unable to stand the current system of education if she did not know how to base her own decisions on the facts and not on the opinions of others. She also tells Mina that she will be joining the Imperial University's Research Wing soon. Mina tells him that they would have split up after graduating anyway, but she says that they will not be able to do so because of the "stupid aliens" who have taken over the world. She adds that they cannot abandon education because of "some stupid aliens" and joins the Imperial Military Academy. Mina scolds him for joining the military academy because he is female and unfit for the men. He tells her that he hates women because they block his view of things. He says that he is very open minded and that this makes him better than her. He adds that he cannot believe that he has the same grades as the other soldiers and that the trust of others is also higher than his own. Mina says that the only way to get rid of this system is to get the two men out of the country.
