The Princess's maid, Sophia, tells her that the day of the wedding is a surprise for her, because she has always been isolated from the rest of the city. She is sorry that she cannot sell the begonia blossom that she has kept in the garden, but she feels that the ruler of Norterang has changed, and that she should not stand up against him. She also tells how Macken has always taken his hatred of her father and the love of her mother out on Darcy, and how she helped him to open his dark world and show him that he could have a new life. Macken even tried to kill his brother, but because of her negligence, he was dragged back into the darkness again. The Princess thanks her for saving her brother's life, and says that she would not have made it all this far without her help. She says that accepting help does not make one a coward, especially when it comes from one's own brothers.
