The nobles are on their way back to the palace when they hear the trumpets of the bugle, which means that the hunt is over. Alex and the rest of the party huddle together and discuss the legend of an elk in the forest. The owner of the shoe entered the forest just like the elk, with long silver hair. Macken urges them to stay and watch the nobles go back to their tents, but the boys are afraid that they are not allowed to do so. They rip the shoe off and rush back to claim their prize.
