In this short scene, Sophia and her fiance, the Duke of Alenbroke, exchange insults. The Duke is angry that his brother, Caius, has taken his sister away from him, and he is determined to find Caius's father, who has been missing for 17 years. Caius tells the Duke that the Duke's mother adopted a child from a prisoner 17 years ago, and that the child was exceptionally gifted at medicine and fighting.
