He also tells him that the maids are all talking about Sophia, and that Darcy is using her perfume. He tells her that he's sorry, but she's being promoted to the position of Prince Cesare's "personal maid" , which means that Cesare knows everything about her. He's testing the waters, he says, to see if he can use her to seduce him. He says that he doesn't know how to fight back, but he'll tell Cesare.
