About This Chapter
"Dodo food" is the title of this chapter's epigraph, and it's a reference to a famous line from Shakespeare's play Dostoevsky's The Merchant of Venice. It's one of the most famous lines in the play, and the epigraph is from the play's opening lines. It says something like, "What a massive mansion" . The epigraph goes on to say that the mansion must belong to a "wealthy family" , implying that it must have been built by a wealthy family. It also says something about the fact that "alexis is basking in this place basking in his fever . . getting worse ." This is a big deal, because it means that alexis's health is about to take a turn for the worse, and that means that he's going to have to stay in Norterang for a while longer. This is the first time we've heard of this kind of thing, so we're not sure what to make of it. But we do know that this is going to be a major blow to the family's finances, since the king's death was supposed to be the end of the line of succession to the throne. So, the king will have to spend a lot of time in the hospital, which means that the whole family will be in a bad spot for a long, long time. The king is not the only one who's worried about this, though, because he once hated the queen, but now he realizes that she's proven herself to be "capable and brave." He's willing to give her a chance to "live as long
