About This Chapter
After school, the boys taunt Shiko and his friends about their inability to catch up with them. Shiko says that he is a "pro at play-ing" , but that they are grown ups. He tells them that he can't play with them all the time, because they are "adults" . He then tells them to "run, every body, bolt, we're gonna build up speed, on the swings, take him down, with a kick." He says that if they want to see what he means, they can "look as much as they want," and he can "totally see her under weari." He tells the boys that they will take them on their own "selfs," and that he will not let them hurt "yoshiko again." The boys mock Shiko's lack of interest in studying, saying that she always gets "zeroes" on her tests. They then tell him that he should stop wasting his time playing with them, because he is wasting their time "playing any way." Shiko then tells his friends that he also eats and sleeps, and then he plays so that the "children of modern society" have lost their "hopes and dreams." He concludes that "what a terrible grown-up" he is.
