The next morning, the Governess tells her students that she and Dorine have broken off their relationship. She tells them that she is not worried about losing her job at the school because she is able to stay and help Dorine. The Governess says that she has been hiding a lot of her possessions from Dorine and her lover, and that she will be careful not to tell anyone about it.
