This scene opens with a flashback to the beginning of the novel, when Hiroshi and his daughter, Yuri, are in a hotel room. Yuri tells her mother that her father has gone to work in the hotel, and that she has told her mother about the hotel and school. Her mother is shocked and asks her why she is in the room and why he is in a bondage chair. She tells him that he is a liar and that he has been dreaming about the school and the hotel. She asks him if he had any dirty dreams and he tells her that he did not have any. He tells her to pull herself up by her bootstraps and prepare for the second-semester midterm
