In Hiroshige's apartment, hotaru and his friend, the artist makoto, are discussing the possibility of getting back together. Hotaru says he'd like to go back to New York, and the artist replies that he's not sure he'll be able to make it back. He's heard that a friend of his from the artist's village has a new piece on display in the city, and he thinks it's a good idea to go see it. The two of them go off to have some fun, and hotaru asks the artist if he ever thought about getting together with Miyuki San. Miyuki replies that she's never thought about doing so, and that she broke her glass the other day when she realized that he was talking about her. She apologizes, and says that she knew Miyuki wouldn't forgive her, but she wanted to speak to him. She wanted to tell him that she was on her way to becoming a doctor in France, but Miyuki's father blew up at her, and she just ran into him in the middle of the night. She's at the end of her rope, she says, and all she can do is get in her way. She says that if this were a soap opera, she'd have a happy ending.
