"Hotaru's Way" opens with a conversation between hotaru and amemiya. Hotaru complains that he's late for work and that he doesn't want to go out with his friends on Christmas Eve. He also complains about the fact that he has to go to a year-end party on the 28th. He's bummed that he can't go to the party because he has work to do. He complains about how hotaru looks on the train and how he looks like her on the street. He says that she looks like a diva and that she's too pushy about getting into a relationship with someone. She's like a "drag out relation ships" with "undesirable and men" . He tells her that he likes her even more now that he hears her say things that make him happy. He thinks about how he used to like her when they were younger, but now that they're together, they look like the same person. He wonders if this is the reason why he loves her so much, because she reminds him so much of past times. He asks if it's okay to eat with her even though nothing is going on in his life.
