About This Chapter
"Hotaru's Way" The hotaru goes to a camp to talk about marriage. He admits that he never thought about it before, but now that he's married, he feels "bursting with happiness" . He says that he used to be a "camp pariah" three years ago, when women gave each other "high fives" , but he doesn't need to worry about that anymore. He just needs to "change gears" and let other people take care of him. He's cooking every day, he says, and he just wants other people to look after him. "What is this," he asks, "this security ? . . this warmth " . she calls maternal instinct " , she says, "you can't turn a lighter vegetable lighter on ! . you just have to take some meat, too !" . Hotaru says that marriage is the "climb from the himon life to the marriage life" : it's not like his old life style. He thinks that the married life will make things "more fun" around the office. He also thinks that he introduced the married girls to him, and that they're "perfect fits" for each other. He wonders why they don't shake hands, and wonders if it is "an oil - and water situation ! me, tap ay, tap tap cha, la la, la !" He wonders if the marriage is a "rollercoaster ride" of happiness and heartbreak, and says that it wears the hotaru out . "You're happy, one moment, and heartbroken, the next, wears you out," he says. "That's romance" for him , he concludes. "I'm sure this all right ," he wonders, "take better care of them makoto, age 34 . these days, age 37 ." . he wonders if she's trying to "balance over her appearance" with "having fun," but she isn't "quite there" yet. He asks if she wants to marry, and she says that she wants a "really traditional marriage" and "becoming one ?" . She asks him if he wants to "go to the trouble" to get married
