In this short scene, Hiroshi, Ruchi, and the rest of the family visit a shrine on New Year's Eve. Hiroshi asks Ruchi to make him an obi-mawashi , which he wears every year, so that he can have more than one father. Ruchi agrees, and he and Hiroshi hang their ofuda on the wall of their living room, which is not a shrine, so they do not have to poke holes in the wall for it to stick to the wall. They also talk about their new apartment, which they have shared with Ruchi's mother, and how they have not fought with each other in the past. The family also talks about how they will be returning home the next day, since Hiroshi's father will be on his way back from a trip, and Ruchi will be able to drive them all home. The group also discusses the fact that Hiroshi has decided not to go to class today because he wants to warm up before going back to school.
