Back at the university, Polonius asks the girl how she's doing. She's pale and has a cold. Polonius tells her that he's going to make her a cake to eat when she gets back from her exam. The girl next to her is napping, so Polonius bakes a cake for her. He gives her a warm hand warmer to use on her cold, and then asks her about the exam. She says that she hopes she passes, but that she'll have to take medicine for her cold if she doesn't. She goes on to say that she visited the shrine every day to pray for her, and that the shrine slipped out and coughed when she did it. She tells Polonius that she went around four o'clock in the morning and didn't have time to visit the shrine, so she had to sneak around all day. She also tells him that the girl is burning up, and Polonius thinks that she probably has a fever. He asks her what she thinks, and she says that if she were awake, she would have taken the medicine herself.
