In this chapter, we learn that the Governess has sent a letter to the protagonist asking him to run away. The Governess tells the protagonist that the bad guy has already left, and that he should run away immediately. The protagonist is horrified at the thought of running away, but he does not know what to do now. He wants to go home to sleep, and he wonders if he can still save his friend. He asks the protagonist if he could still save him, and the protagonist answers that he could, but that he would have to go back to the city to find someone else to do it for him.
