In this chapter, Tommo explains that he's lost his ability to fight off the demi-creatures. He's not sure how to get back on his feet, since he can't see his own head. He also notes that the shinyanakamura incident last year was caused by a "variant" of the ants, which means that the previous year's attack was due to an "undifferentiated" version of the same thing. Tommo says he needs to figure out how to go about his business without getting captured. First, he decides to go to the "tale of the ye of demi" , where he hopes to find some of the "toomey" . Then he decides that he needs a cell. He needs a way to find out who the demi is, because he needs someone to talk to at night.
