Miss Betsey asks Mr. Lorry what he's doing in the store, and he says he'll buy some fruit for his wife. He's disappointed that she doesn't like the fruit, but he can't wait to get her some later. He tells her that if he wanted his wife to be picky, he'd get her to buy some of the fruit. He says that if she was a little picky, she wouldn't be able to take anything that was "sour" in the way he knows it is. He goes on to tell her that he bought a whole chicken for her, and she'll have to wait until later to buy the rest of the chicken. She asks him why he stopped at the fruit section, and when he says it was because he was looking at his girlfriend, she asks him if she should be in school. He explains that she's his girlfriend and that he hired her as an assistant. She's still working on her master's degree. Miss Bet
