In this chapter, we learn that we're introduced to a new character, a woman named "Brooke" , who is a friend of "Brandon" . We're also introduced to "Brooke's" husband, "Brant," who is also a "friend" of "Brooke." We learn that he's a "low-class" guy, and that he loves "Brooke," whom he calls "the girl from nowhere." We also learn that "Brooke herself" is a "girl from nowhere," and that she's "wilful and gentle," and "draws people in," and so on and so forth.
