In this chapter, we are introduced to Violet and her family. Violet is furious with herself for being a woman and for not having enough money to save her brother. She tells the others that she has been working for many years to provide for them and that if they did not spend this money on her, they would not have enough money for her brother to continue his studies. Violet tells them that she applied for a student loan herself and that she gave them most of her salary. She then asks them if they have ever put themselves in her shoes and if this has anything to do with her.
