In the middle of the night, Tullus wakes up and tells his son that he's just been talking to his dad. Tullus asks his son what he came to do, and Tullus tells him that he came just to see if he'd be able to help him out. When Tullus says that he doesn't care about what his son does to him, he says that if it makes him feel better, that's all that matters. He says that there's only one thing that matters to him: the scar on his shoulder. The only other person who knew about the injury was the guy from school, who told Tullus that his shoulder was in a bad way and that he needed to get it checked out ASAP. This is the guy Tullus met at school, and it's clear that Tullus and his son were thinking the same thing at the time. The two boys decide that they've got to find the man on the phone ASAP, because they don't have enough food on their plates.
