In this chapter, the monster explains that the link between heaven and earth has been severed, and that he has succeeded in stopping the "mingling" of the undead. He explains that even if he had been killed by the moonwatch, he would not have been able to survive. He says that the undead will never return to the world because of the severed link. The monster then explains how the original monster, who was supposed to sacrifice himself to heaven, was actually an ancient "reformer" . The only thing that can stop the evil from happening is the sacrifice of the mingling.
