The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Suyitong in which she laments the fact that the capital is boring. She says that it is better for her to stay in the herbal valley, because there is a nearby snowdrift villa. She tells Jiming that she cannot leave the valley without his help, and that he should leave with him. Jiming tells her that there is no need for him to leave, as the place has already been deserted for many years, and there are no dangers. He tells her to return to the hotel first, and then he and the others can go back. He says that he feels the energy of the city in the downtown, and he will not bring anyone there if he is not sure of it. The trick of ghost, he tells her, is that she is able to read the memories of the plants in the valley by resonance.
