The chapter opens with Jim's cousin, Wenlin, telling Jim that his father is still trying to get along with his family. Jim is shocked that his cousin is so arrogant, because he's just like his father. Jim says that the whole family was involved in the hunt for the phoenix, but his father took it away. Jim thinks that's weird, since the family's involvement was supposed to be helping the hunt. Jim also says that after his father's death, Jim adopted Yu Ge, thinking that she was a pheasant, but she turned out to be a demon. Jim wonders what happened to the other guys who bullied him, since they all died mysteriously after Jim took refuge in the human emperor's house. Jim doesn't know what's going on, but he thinks it's probably because of the "phantom butterfly poison pandemic" that broke out in the aftermath of the war with China.
